Arrived

I have arrived at my destination. I am unharmed and I have all my baggage, so I’d say everything went well.

I was worried about all of my layovers, but they were actually quite pleasant. Seattle was a nice airport to spend 7 hours. The 7 hour flight from Seattle to Reykjavik was okay…but it was hard to sleep because my legs cramped up and my butt got really sore.

The Iceland airport was really odd. It looked like a giant open Ikea store. Everything was extremely minimal and everything in that airport from the signs to the chairs looked like it was bought from Ikea.

Amsterdam has a damn fine airport, and it is absolutely massive! It is by far the most impressive airport I’ve ever seen. The shopping is superb, the food selection is varied and attractive. The whole airport looks like an art piece; beautiful sculptures and windows everywhere. Very lovely place.

Holland was a hot place to be today. At least 30 degree’s.

My family picked me up from the airport and I got a lovely tour of the countryside for nearly 4 hours. I saw parts of the University, parts of Amsterdam, and I got to see the sea! It was a lovely day, and my family have been very hospitable.

As I write this I am surprised that I have not collapsed from exhaustion after my nearly 28 hours of up time. It will probably happen soon so I will sign out now.

Congrats to me

I just received notice that I achieved a spot on the Deans List for 2008-2009. That means I had a GPA over 3.6 in my last 4 1/2 full courses, and puts me in the top 9 percent of the Humanities Faculty. Yay me. If you happen by me within the next week, be sure to give me a piece of cake or pie because I probably earned it.

Contact Info

Hello friends and family,

My departure date is quickly approaching (August 23rd is 3 weeks away!), and as such I feel it is prudent to let you all know how you can keep in touch with me while I am away. There are three ways to contact me:

EMAIL:

tiffany [at] tiffanygoestravelling [dot] com

Email is my most preferred method of contact. It is easy to give and receive, there is little chance of loosing it, and it does not require me to physically move anywhere I likely wasn’t already.

SNAIL MAIL:

I enjoy receiving and sending regular post mail – however this method of contact is not preferred over email because I am worried about how I am going to balance my class work and my thesis, so physically writing something may be extremely low on my priority list some days.

Tips for sending snail mail:

1) Keep your letters short. The longer your letter, the longer it will take me to respond to it.

2) Keep your letters lite: The lighter and more pleasant your letter, the more I will want to respond to it. Serious or high focus discussion are best kept for email because of the expediency of typing, and spell checker.

3) Send me ____ : If you include something in your letter like a photograph it will make the letter extra special for me, and jazz up my sure to be barren rented room. Other “Send me ____” items could be flat candy (like gum or fruit paste bars, or other candy that fits in envelopes) and stickers.

If you would like my snail mail address, please email me.

SKYPE:

Skype is my third most preferred mode of communication. Skype has the advantage of being the most personal communication device, but has the disadvantage of time zone manoeuvring. Leiden is 8 hours later then Calgary, so finding a good time for you to call and me to talk is not easy, but, not impossible.

Here is a list of times that I feel will be best to try to Skype me:

Calgary Leiden

(If you are Night Owls)

0:00 8:00

1:00 9:00

2:00 10:00

(Day Times)

8:00 16:00

9:00 17:00

10:00 18:00

11:00 19:00

12:00 20:00

13:00 21:00

I do not anticipated being constantly logged onto Skype, so if you would like to contact me by Skype, please email me and we can arrange a time.

That is all for now. I will sorely miss all of you, but hopefully with a bit of communication I won’t lose any of you.
